Safety

Code of conduct

The smooth running of activities such as skiing depends, among other things, on compliance with the established code of conduct. In this sense, you have the obligation to be aware of the regulations in force before practicing an activity on the site of the Petite-Cascapedia Regional Park and you have the duty to respect them at all times. Winter sports carry risks. By choosing to practice this activity, you choose to accept the inherent risks associated with the activity as much for your safety as with regard to - but not only - equipment breakage and any injury incurred. Your presence on the Petite-Cascapedia Regional Park site will be interpreted as a tacit acceptance of the inherent risks and of your commitment to respect the park regulations.

Mountain Code of conduct

This list is not exhaustive and must be adjusted by the user, depending on the circumstances.

  1. The golden rule, control!

Maintain control of your speed and direction. Make sure you are able to stop and avoid any person or obstacle. The participant is responsible for his maneuvers. He must choose trails corresponding to his skill level and remain vigilant so as to be able to react quickly to avoid collisions.

  2. Priority to people below!

Give way to people below and take a route that ensures their safety. The skier/snowboarder cannot see everything that is going on around him. On the slopes, the uphill skier can see people downhill; it is his responsibility to maneuver in such a way as to avoid them.

  3. Free the track!

Stop on the trail only if you are visible to people uphill and if you do not obstruct the trail. To avoid placing yourself in unnecessary danger, it is recommended to stop on the sides of the slopes.

  4. At intersections, priority to people above!

Give way to people uphill when entering a trail as well as at intersections. Like a driver who must stop at intersections, the skier/snowboarder must avoid cutting off the path of a person already on a descent.

  5. Help the patrollers!

If you are involved in or witness an accident, remain on the scene and identify yourself to a first aid attendant. Whether or not involved in an accident, the skier/snowboarder must assist an injured person. They should also help rescuers collect the required information. They can also prevent accidents by alerting rescuers to behaviour that goes against the rules of the Mountain Code of Conduct.

  6. No rogue equipment!

Use and wear an appropriate retention system for your equipment at all times. The slider must use a system which, during a fall, prevents his equipment from falling off him, which could injure another person. Such as the brake system integrated into the bindings in alpine skiing.

  7. No drugs or alcohol!

Do not use ski lifts and slopes if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. These substances decrease the faculties as well as the capacity to react quickly and to maintain the control of its maneuvers. Alcohol and drugs do not mix with safety.

  8. Obey the signs!

Obey all signs and warnings and never venture off-piste or onto closed trails. The operator sets up signs that allow sliders to navigate safely in the mountain. It is therefore important to be aware of it and to comply with it.
